Okay...so Rachel has let the cat out of the bag and I'm now officially out of the closet. I find this fun and interesting all at the same time. It's like you find yourself just going on and on and then suddenly you catch yourself thinking..."so who the hell is going to be reading this???"
Anyway, I am going to just write my thoughts occasionally about whatever comes to mind, which is a lot some days and then on other days not so much. Some days I will have lots of frustration with work and wedding planning and the big diet/workout plan. Speaking of that, for those of you that are NOT 51, do your work now and don't try waiting until you are in your 50's. It was a lot more fun putting on the weight than it is getting it off!! Of course, I would like to blame those three babies, but they are now all in their twenties, so that is getting a bit late I suppose. Should have had time to work that off on the treadmill by now.
For Steve and I, life has really changed a lot this summer. We have always liked to walk a lot in our neighborhood, be it the ghetto behind us that it is. Steve never liked it so much because there are a lot of big dogs (pit bulls and such), sometimes they aren't in fenced yards and we have been chased on occasion. So, we started last year going over by the baseball fields on Greenwood Road to walk. Nice sidewalks...no dogs. Well, then I went in for a checkup and the doctor actually had the nerve to tell me that all that walking was well and good, but we were going to have to step it up a bit if we wanted to stay active into our "golden years." What? She said we needed weight training and some serious working out. So, I told Steve about what she said and it was like a light bulb went off in his head!!! Of course, I'm talking to a man whose grandfathers lived to be 99 and 100 and he is, I'm sure, planning on doing the same. (so, he's got 44-45 to go!) He dug his bike out and started riding the 7 miles round trip to work most every day, even these 90 degree days!! We joined the fitness center and have become crazy people at the gym. I even sweat!! We are reading labels and cooking sensibly. I take Slimfast to work and drinking enough water that I could do the job of a camel in the desert. Of course, the weight is falling off of Steve like crazy. Me, not so much....much slower....but I'm hanging with the plan...not giving up.
Like Gilda Radner used to say..."It's always something...."

Shopping Trip

Okay, so I have decided to give this thing a try myself. This morning I drove to the Dora bottoms (that's right) to pick up my friend, Connie, to drive to Rogers. We picked up Mary Beth for that first fitting in her wedding gown. This was the first time to try on her gown that is really hers, not just the one from the trunk showing back in January. It was so much prettier than we both remembered and will, of course, have to have alterations...even from the size 2!! (Lord, was I ever that size??) She made plans to go back next week when she has time for them to make all of the nips and tucks after she has found her shoes. It doesn't need much, which is a good thing. I think whatever we saved on the dress is going to be made up in alteration fees. By the time we left "She Said Yes" we decided we were hungry and went over to a restaurant at Pinnacle Mall. Yummy! By then the rain had started and the three of us got soaked running from one store to the other. Can you say indoor shopping mall???? She found just the right earrings for the wedding, which was another thing to check off of the list.
We made our way back toward Springdale to go to a wedding shop there. I couldn't figure out why the Garmin couldn't find it when they said it was in Springdale, but found out it was actually in Bethel Heights. Can't fool Madame Garmin! It was an interesting, huge, warehouse kind of place with a lot of redneck kind of customers in it. We had hoped to find some bridesmaids gowns there and didn't. However, we did find some of the prettiest veils at great prices. Mary Beth decided on a simple one with a little bit of sparkle at the tip ends since her dress is really simple. Great choice MB!!!
Left there and took Connie for a drive by HarBer High School since she had never been by there. She was seriously impressed. Who isn't? Went by Mary Beth's house and worked on a few more addresses and details in our notebooks before leaving for Fort Smith.
Another little interesting thing later that will be of little interest to anyone else, but is actually what a whole lot of this kind of blog is about, is that I found out today that two of my best friends actually knew each other before. I have talked to Connie about Erica at work and today I mentioned Connie to Erica and found that they actually worked together YEARS ago at the Sparks Gift Shop when Erica was in college and Connie volunteered down there. (which Connie still does). Erica has moved on to working as a therapist like me for Perspectives now and I just happened to mention it. Small world.
Hmmm...well, this is going to be fun, maybe...for me at least. My kids are going to think I'm nuts for doing this. I'm so sarcastic, so for those of you that may fall into reading this ever, I apologize ahead of time. haha.
I do love photos and they will follow.
