California Final Day 10.25.12

Just a couple of photos from today as we packed up and got ready to get back to Arkansas.  The Santa Anna winds were apparently blowing around and blew this huge eucalyptus branch right off and it landed on top of the hot tub!  We had just talked about getting in it and can you only imagine how awful that could have been???
Last official photo to post before I pack the camera away for the airport.  Following this truckload of oranges on the freeway...not a sight you see in Arkansas for sure.
Traffic was extremely heavy today.  As usual, even though we allowed plenty of time, it seems that we start feeling anxious about getting there and getting checked in and all.
We are bringing back the exact things we took over except for a stuffed turtle we got at the Monterey Aquarium for Reid and a tiny "my first Hard Rock tshirt Los Angeles" for Reid.  Too funny when we realized we didn't buy anything for anyone...not even ourselves...but for Reid!
It just seems that our dirty clothes weighed more than the clean ones did coming TO California.  We got our rental car returned and made it to the airport shuttle.  In just our small group that rode to LAX, I don't think any of us spoke the same language.  I think Steve and I were the only English speaking folks.  So amazing!
We made our way through checking in and TIME TO CELEBRATE!  The bags were within the weight guidelines.  Settled in to our seats for the two and a half hour direct flight to Arkansas.
And fortunately, Reid stayed awake just to see Nana and Papa.
A perfect ending to a great vacation.

California 10.24.12

The view from our cottage on Tampango Canyon Blvd in Malibu.

We were so fortunate to find this great cottage late and in the dark along a busy coastal highway.  The GPS had sent us on down the highway, so it became very frustrating trying to get there.  But, once there, it was worth it.  We finally had to laugh at ourselves at how very tired we were and how nothing either of us was saying made any sense whatsoever!  We stopped at a small (and I mean smaller than a convenience store) grocery to pick up some cheese and crackers, wine and some fruit for tomorrow.  I don't think I would ever survive too far out of my element (such as Europe) because even trying to find the most basic of items was difficult.  Things are just so different everywhere you go.
We passed right out after a dip in the hot tub.  Awwww......
Built a fire in the fireplace and tried to watch some television, but we didn't make it for very long.
Wednesday morning we got up early and headed to Hollywood for a visit to the Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theater, and then for Cirque de Suleil "IRIS" there in Hollywood.  Neither of us had been to one before so we were SO pumped!
And yes...I "may" have taken a ton too many photos on the sidewalks.  I couldn't stop myself.
We were across the street from the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show.
Okay...so I'm going to try to edit these to some of my favorites.  You may need to go get a snack or take off your shoes and get comfy to make your way through this blog posting....unless you have been keeping up with the other ten days already and you know that I have a trigger finger on the camera that just......won't.....let.....me.....stop!!!!!

My heavens!  Bette Davis' foot must have been tiny.  I wear an 8 and just look--hers is half that size!

I made Steve try out John Travolta's shoes...he wasn't impressed.
I was fascinated not only by those of my generation, but here in the concrete were so MANY famous actors that I've enjoyed over the years.

George Burns even included his cigar.

Cher--heels of course!
Johnny Depp.  Rachel, that ones for you!

Adam Sandler must have had tennis shoes on, of course.

Ron Howard...thanking his fans from his time in front of and behind the cameras.  What a talent!  He was right next to Tom Hanks, so I picture them all coming down here together and making a fun afternoon of it.
Denzel Washington.  Awesome.
Jack Nicholson.
Look, it's Dorothy Gale from Kansas!  (Judy Garland)

Morgan Freeman...I remember I had just read the FBook posting about his death, which turns out to be a hoax.  So glad!  I want to see more of his movies!
The stars from Harry Potter:
The stars from Twilight Series: (yes, I actually got chills!)
Harrison Ford.
Eddie Murphy

Life size (or do we even know what that would be) of Shrek.
Hollywood Boulevard.

The Chinese Theater.

Time for a snack before the show!

Yes, even after 11 days we still like each other.  I think we will make it!

AWESOME show!  I don't think I even blinked through the entire thing!
This guy really looked like Johnny Depp.  All kinds of characters were dressed up on the sidewalks to, of course, have photo opportunities for tips.  Of course, I missed having a photo with Johnny Depp and instead got the Devil.  Whoa!!!

Yes, I really look terrified. Actually I think I look like the desserts we had been sharing through the vacation caught up with me!  (never Steve!)

Great bakery.  Picked up muffins (or were they cupcakes? haha) for breakfast tomorrow and a giant sugar cookie for our next stop--Beckett's house!  Chris DeCarolis' sister and family live in North Hollywood and they invited us for dinner.  We had just such a great time.  Even though it was short, it was great seeing familiar faces!  And Beckett loved his cookie!
This is Steven's autographed Eagles guitar.  And yes it is in a case.

Beckett playing in his room.  Precious.

Guys and their tool boxes...it never ends!

This little boy even eats broccoli!

Beckett in his Spiderman costume reminded us of Greg about this age in a very similar costume.  Greg wore his almost every night until it simply would no longer fit him.  Beckett was even throwing out spiderwebs!
Ahhhh....the cookie!  Don't tell me we don't know how to make friends.
Love this family.  Steven, CarolAnn and Beckett were awesome!

Look at those muscles!
Tomorrow we get up, pack and head for the airport to fly out at 2:40...heading for XNA.  What an amazing trip we've been blessed to have!  Even with all of the craziness in life that goes on every day, it is good to get away, refocus, get centered and remember what things are really important in this world.  And this is it....love ya Steve.
Here's to 20 more!
