California 10.19.12

This morning began much differently.  We got up really early, determined to make the most of what we had learned about getting around in the city yesterday.  We had our bags packed before going to eat breakfast.  We made it on the early ferry over to the city and found a close location to get on the double decker bus. (they are blue as opposed to the RED ones we rode yesterday).

It is misty, drizzly and overcast today...much more like what we had anticipated here.  Still a lot of people all trying to get to the same place.  We enjoyed the tour through the city.  The Japanese Tea Garden was a bust---really?  $7 to walk around and see really nothing.  What a rip!
Rode through Haight Ashbury---very interesting for sure.  Some of it looks really rough, making me glad we were riding and not walking through it.
Street sign at the corner of Haight/Ashbury.
Interesting artwork out of a window in Haight Ashbury area.

This Victorian (above) was used in the filming of The Addams Family Movie.

Also saw tons of Victorian style "painted ladies"....a term used for some of the 16,000 Victorian homes in San Francisco.  Watched the trolley cars, but decided not to wait in the 2+ hour line to ride them.
We hustled back to catch the 1:30 ferry and missed it by seconds...it was just pulling away.  The next one wasn't until 3:00.  You can guess how happy we both were with that!  haha
We decided to have lunch and then wait for the 3:00 ferry.  The sun came out and warmed things up a bit.  I snoozed on the ride back on the ferry.  We found our car and headed out to the Napa Valley area.
Our hotel here is Union Hotel in Benicia, CA.  It is said to be haunted!

 The weary traveler...

I had to include this photo of the older model television...Steve nearly had a stroke when he realized that the remote didn't even work and he wasn't able to clearly see the score on the Cardinals' playoff game!  Of course, they were losing this game tonight so it was just as well that he couldn't see it!
The hotel was built in 1882 and has only 12 rooms.  I liked it a lot, but Steve says he feels like he is at some grandmother's house.  I reminded him (jokingly) to be careful what he says about her since it is supposed to be haunted!  We decided to go to a movie and found "Argo" close by.  It was really very good.  Back home now tonight and I'm planning to hit the jacuzzi tub to help with the knee.  We have a plan in place for wine country tomorrow!
