This morning began with some early lunch preparations in the kitchen while we waited for Jon and Mary Beth to arrive. Christmas morning has certainly has taken a slower pace since the children have gotten older. I think Steve and I were more anxious and ready to open gifts than they were !!
Rachel played the elf helper and passed gifts out while everyone began going through their stockings. Jon was surprised to find among his good things a package of "lumps of coal" that were really candy....just to say "welcome to the family." Lots of fun surprises for everyone.
Greg had asked for only one thing this year...a Playstation 3....so in order to give him something to do while we opened gifts, we had a series of 5 clue envelopes that he had to complete tasks in order to go find the next envelope....it included completing a sudoku, a word find, listing Santa's reindeer, answering 3 questions about family members and the final one was to tell us all something that we didn't know that he had done this year. Then we gave him the location of his gift. The funniest thing was that when he opened the clue and began working on listing the 8 reindeer, the song "Rudolph" came on loud and clear on our music from the Siruius music station. We all quickly jumped up and muted it! What are the odds for him to be working on that when a song comes on singing "You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer.....". We had a good laugh for sure.
Big lunch required help from everyone. Roast chicken, ham, dressing, potato casserole, green bean casserole, yeast rolls, deviled eggs with chocolate pie and apple dumplings for dessert. We were all stuffed and I actually thought Mary Beth was going to slide out of her chair into the floor asleep.
We took time to talk some about our new year resolutions that we have been thinking about, which was interesting to hear what everyone had planned. More about mine later!
The rest of the day has been spent relaxing. Rachel and I watched "Mamma Mia" tonight while Greg played his Playstation and Steve watched tv back in our room. Bless his heart, he has already sat through Mamma Mia once this week.
I must have been very good this year! Steve gave me lots of goodies, such as new tennis shoes that I desperately needed. He also surprised me with tickets for a concert in a couple of weeks and plans for a weekend getaway for a concert to see Rascal Flatts in Kansas City. I can't wait!!! Rachel gave me a full facial at Glo, which I am excited to schedule. I know I will totally enjoy it, so Hayley get ready! Mary Beth made me a gorgeous bulletin board that I have been wanting for my kitchen. It is too beautiful to cover up! Mary Beth and Jon had also picked an angel off the angel tree to help to honor Steve and I too....a neat thing. Greg gave me yummy lotion from Bath and Bodyworks and a double CD of Rascal Flatts greatest hits....I think there was some plotting going on there!
I'll post photos in a day or two....it's late and I sure don't want to mess up and delete them! (who in the world would do that???)
Merry Christmas to you all!!!
