While I was running in circles yesterday between work and the sleet that was beginning to fall, I wanted to run to Kinko's to print out my annual Christmas letter to tuck in with our cards. It seems that I've never been so late getting myself in gear for Christmas. I have blamed it on everything in the world from post-wedding exhaustion (but that WAS in October) to empty nest syndrome (and Greg has been gone to college for 3 years now!).
Whatever the deal is, I have been behind with decorating and shopping and now with getting my cards in the mail. That is really one of my favorite holiday things to do. I've heard many people saying they just aren't sending any this year because they are cutting back. Well, when this gal no longer sends out Christmas cards then that's when someone should start getting my room ready down at the Shady Rest Home.
I had my special paper to print them on, but of course they never start printing exactly as they should so some paper was ruined. ugh. I'm going to run out. I remembered then that I'm in the "paper store" and could buy more, even if it is a different style, so I continue printing what I had. Now if any of you have printed at Kinko's you know the drill. You put in your debit or credit card in the machine and print away. When you are finished, you remove your card and go home. I did this and gathered up what I had completed and went in search of a replacement paper to finish up. I put my debit card in my coat pocket because I was going to use it again in just a minute to finish my copying. I walked about 10 feet, found the paper that would do and walked back to the printer. I sat down my purse and started to get my debit card out of my coat pocket but it wasn't there. It wasn't anywhere as a matter of fact. Heart attack began and the lump in my throat swelled to a point I felt faint! I once again went through my purse and wallet, but it wasn't there. I gathered up everything in my arms and retraced my steps but no card. I finally asked the clerk if anyone had turned in a card and indeed they had.....it must have been the debit card God.
Apparently since I was bundled up from head to toe for the blizzard conditions we had yesterday, I missed my pocket when I thought I had put the card in there.
This is a story, folks, that could have ended very badly but did not. I am so lucky and someone out there did such a good thing and I can't even thank them.
So, what do I do to make up for such a good thing being done for me? Does that mean I have to be very good for the next month? Hmmm....we'll have to see about that one! Any suggestions?
